Hospital needs versus hospital wants
The Rolling Stones once said, “You can’t always get what you want, but if you try sometimes you get what you need.” I really hope that’s true because I have been trying to get funded for over 20 years for some things I REALLY need.
Now, what the Rolling Stones didn’t point out in their song is the difference between wants and needs. When it comes to being a hospital I don’t have many wants … sure, gold plated elevator buttons would be nice but do I need them? No. What I need are things like more beds for patients so they don’t have to sleep 4 to a room and risk spreading disease. I need new buildings because the current ones are aged out, are prone to fires and floods, and are no longer appropriate for health care delivery.
These things aren’t just ‘nice to have’ but are crucial to the health of Albertans. I need to get funded.
